Congolese President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi asked Vladimir Putin for Russian diplomatic support over the security crisis in eastern DR Congo and the future of MONUSCO, the UN mission in the country. The two leaders met at the Kremlin on 30 October 2026, according to the Congolese presidency’s communications unit.
Félix Tshisekedi asked Vladimir Putin for Russian diplomatic support in seeking a solution to the security crisis in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Congolese president held talks with his Russian counterpart at the Kremlin on Friday 30 October, according to the Congolese presidency’s communications unit.
Tshisekedi stressed that Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, could support Kinshasa in its pursuit of peace. He also said that the Washington and Doha processes had not yet produced concrete results on the ground.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit, also focused on strengthening bilateral relations. Putin described the DRC as a promising African partner for trade and investment, still according to the Congolese presidency. Tshisekedi argued for the independent diversification of international partnerships, without imposed alignment.
The talks came after three agreements were signed between the DRC and Russia and five priority sectors for the strategic partnership were presented, announced on 30 October. On the same day, Tshisekedi also defended the Washington and Doha processes in the Congolese security issue.
