The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Russia want to focus their strategic partnership on five sectors: peace and diplomacy, security, agriculture, energy, and technological and digital innovation. Congolese President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi set out these priorities during his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, according to Le Potentiel.
Vladimir Putin said Russia was ready to support the DRC’s development while respecting its sovereignty, describing the country as one of Africa’s most promising partners for trade and investment. Félix Tshisekedi, for his part, advocated diversifying Kinshasa’s foreign relations without exclusive alignment with any power, according to Le Potentiel.
The two leaders also signed three bilateral agreements, one providing for the creation of an intergovernmental commission and two others covering the development of exchanges in education and health. The signing, announced on 30 October in Moscow, followed Félix Tshisekedi’s visit, during which he received an honorary doctorate in Moscow.
