Congolese Deputy Prime Minister in charge of National Defence and Veterans, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita, visited the International Academy for Combating Terrorism in Jacqueville, Ivory Coast, on Thursday 29 October 2026, Congolese media outlet Beto reports. The visit concluded his official stay, which began on 26 October in Abidjan and focused on expanding military partnerships for the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Welcomed by the academy’s commander, Ivorian General Alah Kouamé Joseph, Guy Kabombo held talks with the command team before visiting the facilities and training equipment. Created at the initiative of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and French President Emmanuel Macron, the academy was inaugurated in June 2021 and says it has trained more than 3,500 military personnel from over 20 countries, according to figures cited by the Congolese Defence Ministry.
No agreement, timetable or number of Congolese trainees was announced after the visit. The minister nevertheless referred to future developments between his ministry and the academy. His trip was preceded by a meeting with Ivorian Defence Minister Téné Birahima Ouattara on military training, expertise sharing and partnership between the two armies.
Kinshasa is particularly interested in combating the Allied Democratic Forces, which are active in North Kivu and Ituri. In March 2021, the group was placed by the US State Department on its list of foreign terrorist organisations under the name ISIS-DRC.
