Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi reaffirmed in Moscow his support for the Washington and Doha processes to resolve the security crisis in eastern DR Congo. He called for respect for territorial integrity and lasting peace at the Russia-Africa summit, according to Actualité.cd.
The president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, reaffirmed on Thursday 29 October in Moscow his support for the Washington and Doha processes to restore peace in the east of the country, with the support of the African Union. He called for the “effective and verifiable” implementation of progress made in recent months, according to Actualité.cd.
At the third Russia-Africa Summit, Félix Tshisekedi linked resolving the crisis to the territorial integrity of states, respect for the United Nations Charter and the peaceful settlement of disputes. He condemned the illicit exploitation of resources, which he said funds the war and prevents development, while calling for the restoration of the Congolese state’s authority across the entire territory.
The Congolese head of state also recalled the requirements of United Nations Security Council resolutions 2773 and 2808, including the cessation of hostilities, the withdrawal of Rwandan forces from the DRC and an end to support for AFC/M23, which has become the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN). The position comes after the announced formation of a new armed coalition led by Joseph Kabila, on 13 October.
