Joseph Kabila, former president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was named on Monday 12 October 2026 as head of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), a new political-military coalition seeking to overthrow President Félix Tshisekedi’s government. The movement was presented at a press conference at Kabila’s residence in Goma, an eastern city controlled by M23 rebels since last year, according to Leadership.
