The International Contact Group for the Great Lakes region is calling on parties to the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to honour their diplomatic commitments and UN Resolution 2773. In its joint statement of 30 October 2026, members called, in particular, for an end to hostilities, the withdrawal of Rwandan forces and the neutralisation of the FDLR.
The International Contact Group (ICG) for the Great Lakes region is calling on the Democratic Republic of the Congo to publish a clear timetable for the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of the FDLR. In a joint statement published on Friday 30 October, the group’s 11 member countries and the European Union called on Kinshasa to implement its plan concerning the Rwandan armed group quickly, according to the ICG.
The group also recalled UN Security Council Resolution 2773, which calls in particular for an end to Rwandan support for the M23, the withdrawal of Rwandan forces from the DRC, the dismantling of parallel administrations and the neutralisation of the FDLR. It also urged all parties to observe the ceasefire provided for in the commitments made in Doha on 19 July 2025, and expressed concern about the impact of the growing use of drones on civilians.
The statement comes after the ICG condemned the FRN’s political violence, announced on 31 October. The group has reiterated its demands as fighting continues in eastern DRC.
