Chad’s National Election Management Agency has set 13 December 2026 for a by-election to replace MP Hassan Moussa Yakhoub, who died. Candidates will register from 1 to 5 October and the campaign will begin 21 days before the vote, according to ANGE.

The National Election Management Agency (ANGE) has set Sunday 13 December 2026 for the by-election to fill the Assoungha parliamentary seat in Ouaddaï province. The announcement was made on Saturday 31 October in N’Djamena by its president, Ahmed Bartchiret, following the death of Hassan Moussa Yakhoub, who was elected under the RNDT-Le Réveil banner, according to Alwihda Info.

The filing of candidacies is scheduled for 1 to 5 October 2026, while the campaign will begin 21 days before the election and end 24 hours before polling stations open, in accordance with Articles 132 and 183 of the Electoral Code. ANGE is calling on parties and groups meeting the legal requirements to participate in compliance with the law.

Ahmed Bartchiret urged candidates, parties and their supporters to preserve a peaceful climate. He also invited voters in Assoungha to turn out calmly and the media to provide balanced coverage in line with ethical standards.

The election follows the death of MP Hassan Moussa Yacoub, announced on 9 October 2026. It is the second parliamentary seat to become vacant during the legislature, according to ANGE.
