The prefect of Aboudeïa department in Chad, Mahamat Soumaine Hassan, has completed his peace-awareness tour in Dagour sub-prefecture, after visiting all six sub-prefectures in the department. The mission, which began on 21 October, focused on social cohesion, respect for transhumance corridors and preventing conflicts between herders and farmers, Tchadinfos reports.
Accompanied by the six canton chiefs — Oulah Rachid, Arabe Rachid, Rachid Amdagach, Autochtone, Torom and Yal-Nass — Mahamat Soumaine Hassan also called for efforts to combat violence against women, respect women’s and children’s rights, and send children to school. The canton chiefs presented him with a certificate of recognition in support of peace, according to Tchadinfos.
The tour ended in Dagour with a horse race held on the village football ground. It follows initiatives by Salamat authorities to promote rural peace and regulate transhumance corridors, including the promotion of rural peace in Salamat and the prefect’s call for farmers and herders to live in peace in Mangueigne.
