Nationals from Maniema’s seven territories and Kindu reaffirmed their support for Joseph Kabila, denouncing their province’s marginalisation and deteriorating living conditions. They criticised roads, prices, access to essential services and insecurity, according to Kivu Morning Post.
Nationals from the seven territories of Maniema province and the city of Kindu reaffirmed their support for Joseph Kabila, former president of the Democratic Republic of Congo and president of the National Resistance Front (FRN), on 31 October 2026, reports Kivu Morning Post. They accuse the provincial authorities of marginalising the province and seeking to divide its inhabitants for political purposes.
The signatories contrast their positive assessment of Kabila’s presidency, from 2001 to 2019, with the current socioeconomic deterioration. They cite the condition of the roads linking Kindu to several territories, rising prices, youth unemployment and difficulties accessing water, electricity and healthcare. They also report security problems in Kasongo and Kabambare, and criticise divisions among provincial MPs over the management of the governor’s office.
The nationals denounce political and judicial persecution targeting, among others, Matata Ponyo Mapon, a former prime minister, and Kikaya bin Karubi, a diplomat. They call on Maniema’s youth and forces of society to unite and engage in “peaceful resistance”.
The statement comes after civil society organisations in eastern Congo backed Kabila’s movement on 20 October. On 30 October, Congolese General Germain Katanga joined Joseph Kabila’s front.
