Cameroonian civil society organisations are asking the government to publish the evidence justifying the three-month suspension of the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC). Territorial Administration Minister Paul Atanga Nji defended the measure in an interview published by Cameroon Tribune on 29 October, citing alleged breaches of the law on political parties.

Civil society actors and human rights defenders are asking the Cameroonian government to make public the evidence supporting the accusations against the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC), after the party was suspended for three months. Human rights defender Alex Gustave Azebaze says no investigation report implicating the FSNC in the alleged offences has been presented, reports Cameroon News Agency.

Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji suspended FSNC activities throughout the national territory in a decree signed on 27 October. The ministry cited calls for insurrection, incitement to violence and serious disturbances of public order linked to the presidential election of 12 October 2025. The minister defended the measure in an interview published by Cameroon Tribune on 29 October, saying that the party had breached legislation governing political parties.

Paul Atanga Nji invoked Article 17 of the 1990 law on political parties, which authorises a three-month suspension in certain cases of public disorder or breaches of the rules. He also accused the FSNC’s presidential candidate of proclaiming himself the winner and calling on the administrative authorities and defence forces to place themselves at his disposal.

The civil society challenge adds to criticism from political parties following the decision. The Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) called for its cancellation, while the Patriotic Movement for the Salvation of Cameroon (MPSC) expressed fears of a prolonged exclusion of the FSNC. The suspension of Issa Tchiroma Bakary’s party was announced on 27 October.
