Work on the Palar bridge in Maroua, Cameroon, must strengthen its teams and resources after an inspection by Cameroon’s Public Works Minister, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi. The foundations and the ordering of the steel structure remain to be completed, and the minister demanded a revised timetable, according to local authorities.

Cameroon’s Public Works Minister, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, demanded that work on the Palar bridge in Maroua be accelerated during a visit on Friday 30 October. He asked the company SINOHYDRO to revise its timetable, strengthen its teams and mobilise more equipment, according to Mimi Mefo Info.

The foundations and the ordering of the steel structure are still among the stages to be completed. The minister also ordered the consolidation of the temporary causeway currently allowing people to cross the Mayo Kaliao, while two additional machines were mobilised at the site.

The future structure will be a two-girder composite bridge, 70 metres long and 10 metres wide. It will rest on bored piles and will include the development of around two kilometres of access roads. Work, launched on 9 September, is being financed by savings made in the Magada-Guidiguis road rehabilitation project, according to Mimi Mefo Info.
