Marcel Abéké has been installed as chairman of the board of Comilog, the Gabonese subsidiary of French group Eramet, after the handover from General Jean-Hilaire Doudou Lengoma. The new chairman is expected to help advance local manganese processing, according to Infos Gabon.
Marcel Abéké was installed on Friday 30 October as chairman of the board of Compagnie minière de l’Ogooué (Comilog), the Gabonese subsidiary of French group Eramet. He succeeds General Jean-Hilaire Doudou Lengoma following a handover ceremony chaired by Gabonese Mining Minister Sosthène Nguema Nguema, according to Infos Gabon.
The minister asked the new chairman to focus his work on the local processing of manganese, in order to develop more industrial activity, skilled jobs and expertise in Gabon. Marcel Abéké, who has already headed Comilog as managing director, promised to work in the company’s interests and said he understood the responsibilities linked to his new position, according to Infos Gabon.
The appointment follows talks on 21 October between Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and the French ambassador about manganese processing. It comes as the Gabonese state seeks to increase the value added produced locally around a major resource of the national economy.
