Congolese opposition figure Jean-Marc Kabund accused Félix Tshisekedi’s aides of potentially misinforming the president about Manacé Lomboto’s death. In a statement published on 1 November 2026, he challenged the claim that Prince Epenge’s detention was intended to shed light on the death, after an opposition demonstration in September.

Jean-Marc Kabund, president of the Alliance for Change, accused Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi on Sunday 1 November of risking becoming the victim of disinformation about the death of Manacé Lomboto. In a statement addressed to the head of state, the opposition figure challenged his comments on the detention of Prince Epenge, a member of the Article 64 opposition coalition, Actualité.cd reports.

Félix Tshisekedi had explained that Prince Epenge’s detention was intended to establish the truth about Manacé Lomboto’s death. According to Kabund, the president’s aides could make him believe that no one was killed during the opposition demonstration on 15 September, held alongside the start of the parliamentary session.

Kabund also believes that the president’s public statements about a case being examined by the courts could influence the magistrates handling the matter. He reminded him of his duty to guarantee judicial independence and said restraint would have been necessary during the proceedings. Prince Epenge was transferred to Makala prison.
