Peter Obi asks Tinubu to account for 15.8 trillion naira

Peter Obi asks President Bola Tinubu to explain the use of 15.8 trillion naira saved through the removal of the fuel subsidy, as well as more than $100 billion borrowed. The NDC candidate also calls for measurable results on poverty, education and electricity, according to Tribune Online.

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi is asking President Bola Tinubu to account for the use of 15.8 trillion naira presented as savings made after the removal of the fuel subsidy, as well as more than $100 billion borrowed by his administration. He made the requests in a Facebook post titled “Good Day, Mr President: Nigerians Deserve Accountability”, following Tinubu’s visit to Akwa Ibom State.

Peter Obi is also asking the president to explain how increased public revenues from taxes and other sources have translated into the lives of Nigerians. He cites, among other things, the number of people lifted out of poverty, children who had dropped out of school and returned to class, and functioning primary healthcare centres established under the Tinubu government.

The former governor of Anambra State also questions the government’s record on electricity and security. He recalls that Bola Tinubu had promised to reform the electricity sector and says Nigeria remains among the countries most affected by terrorism, according to his statements reported by Tribune Online.
