Abubakar Abdullahi Sokoto, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for governor of Sokoto State, says his party has no alternative to Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. He supports an alliance with the ruling party through the Rainbow Coalition, according to Daily Post Nigeria.

Abubakar Abdullahi Sokoto, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor of Sokoto State, said his party had no alternative presidential candidate to Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election. He said the Sokoto PDP was negotiating an alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party, through the Rainbow Coalition, a political platform associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Daily Post reports.

At a meeting with PDP officials at the party secretariat in Sokoto, Abdullahi explained that the proposed agreement would seek to support Tinubu's candidacy while allowing the PDP to retain its candidates in other elections in the state. He said the party would maintain its structure and continue mobilising its voters for its candidates in the local and legislative elections in 2027.

The candidate also said PDP members could be encouraged to support APC candidates in areas where PDP candidates have less electoral support. He called on former vice-president Atiku Abubakar to reconsider his political position and join the alliance in favour of Tinubu's re-election. The Rainbow Coalition is open to parties, groups and individuals wishing to support its objectives, according to Abdullahi.
