Standard Lesotho Bank (SLB) planted 2,000 trees at Ha-Khojane in Mafeteng district with Lesotho’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Sunday Express reports. The planting took place on Thursday as part of an environmental and biodiversity conservation initiative.

The bank has committed 750,000 maloti over three years, starting in 2024, to the country’s reforestation efforts. SLB’s head of business, Keketso Makara, said the operation was part of the Blue Roots programme, which aims to plant one million trees across the continent. The bank had previously planted 54,000 trees in Mohale’s Hoek district.

The traditional leader of Ha-Khojane, ’Makhojane Khojane, believes environmental restoration could help bring back small animal species and medicinal plants used by the Basotho. Representatives of the bank and the ministry took part in the planting, according to the Sunday Express.
