The heirs of late businessman Aslam Abubaker are claiming ownership of commercial plots in Maputsoe before the Leribe District Court. They say they bought the plots for 450,000 maloti in 2000, while the seller disputes the validity of the transfer, the Sunday Express reports.
The heirs of late businessman Aslam Abubaker are asking the Leribe District Court to transfer into their names portions of two commercial plots in Maputsoe, which they say their father bought for 450,000 maloti in 2000. The dispute pits the family against Tau Mokhofu, who allegedly sold the plots before transferring one of them to his son, according to the Sunday Express.
The plots host several rental businesses, while Tau Mokhofu operates a butchery there. Aged 88, he acknowledged selling half of Plot 147 and half of the adjacent Plot 153, but maintains that his signature on a transfer deed for Plot 147 was forged. He said he had gone to the High Court in 2010 to have the transfer cancelled.
Tau Mokhofu obtained the lease for Plot 153 only in November 2015, about 15 years after the alleged sale, before transferring it to his son Morapeli Mokhofu in May 2016. The heirs, represented by lawyer Motiea Teele, contest the transfer and are seeking enforcement of the sale agreement before Resident Magistrate Bokang Makhaketso.
