South Africa’s Electoral Commission approved 2,655,067 voters for special votes ahead of the 4 November municipal elections. About 127,000 officials are to organise home visits and voting-station ballots on 2 and 3 November, according to the Electoral Commission of South Africa.
Two million six hundred and fifty-five thousand and sixty-seven South African voters were authorised to vote early on 2 and 3 November, ahead of the municipal elections on 4 November. The announcement was made on Sunday by Sy Mamabolo, chief electoral officer of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), according to SAnews.
Of these voters, 678,525 will vote at home because of physical infirmity or disability, while 1,976,542 will go to their usual voting stations. The IEC has mobilised 127,000 officials to organise these two categories of special voting, according to Sy Mamabolo.
Gauteng has the highest number of authorised voters, with 480,721 people, ahead of the Eastern Cape with 401,971 and KwaZulu-Natal with 348,971. Special voting stations will receive voters from 8am to 5pm on both days, and ballots will only be counted after being reconciled with the other electoral operations, according to the IEC.
This stage precedes the South African municipal elections on 4 November, for which the Electoral Commission declared itself ready on 26 October.
