Maseru City Council has chosen Pasco Waste and Environmental Consultant to oversee the rehabilitation of the Tšosane dumpsite after ending its contract with SSL Joint Venture. The dispute concerned the scope and cost of the work, which rose from an initial offer of 27 million to 60 million maloti, reports the Sunday Express.

Maseru City Council has appointed Pasco Waste and Environmental Consultant, a South African company, to oversee the rehabilitation of the Tšosane dumpsite, reports the Sunday Express. The announcement was made on Friday during a meeting with residents of Ha-Tšosane.

The council ended the contract of its previous consultant, SSL Joint Venture, following a disagreement over the scope and cost of the work. According to Deputy Mayor ‘Moea Makhakhe, the initial offer of 27 million maloti had been revised to 60 million to include site stabilisation. The council also deemed that the contract exceeded its procurement ceiling, set at 20 million maloti.

The Attorney General, Advocate Rapelang Motsieloa, advised the council to terminate the contract, which it considered illegal, and then relaunch the tender process. SSL Joint Venture is contesting the termination and says the contract was legally binding.
