Econet Telecom Lesotho raised 971,000 maloti for the HigherLife Foundation Lesotho through company-matched donation pledges, reports the Sunday Express. Participants at the gala dinner of the 2026 Econet Golf Day, held on Friday at the Maseru Mall shopping centre, pledged 485,500 maloti; the operator contributed an equivalent amount.
The foundation supports young Basotho, particularly vulnerable children, in their education and leadership training. Its chief executive, Dennis Plaatjies, said it currently supports 141 higher education students and 114 secondary school pupils. Econet Telecom Lesotho allocates 2% of its revenue to the foundation each year, an estimated annual budget of between 13 million and 15 million maloti, but is seeking additional funding as needs increase.
The dinner also marked the close of the fourth edition of the Econet Expo, dedicated to artificial intelligence and bringing together businesses, educational institutions, students and technology providers. Plaatjies said holding the two events at the same time had enabled the operator’s international partners to take part in the golf tournament.
