Zambia raises fuel prices for Novembermaccanti · CC BY 2.0

Zambia’s energy regulator raised November prices by 1.60 kwacha per litre for petrol, 1.18 kwacha for diesel and 2.32 kwacha for kerosene. Petrol now costs 33.06 kwacha per litre and diesel 34.45 kwacha, an increase the Energy Regulation Board attributes to higher oil prices and the depreciation of the kwacha.

The ERB justified the increases by rising international oil prices and the depreciation of the kwacha, Mwebantu reports. They come after Zambia recorded annual inflation of 6.3% in October, according to a publication dated 30 October.

The new price schedule extends the rise in petrol prices, which reached 31.46 kwacha per litre on 1 October. This was followed by bus fare increases of up to 7% on 9 October, according to reports on the measures.
