Eskom finance chief retires after 24 years

Calib Cassim is stepping down as chief financial officer of Eskom, South Africa’s state-owned electricity company, after 24 years of service. He will continue in the acting role until his successor takes office, according to a company statement published on 31 October 2026.

Calib Cassim retired on 31 October 2026 after 24 years at Eskom, South Africa’s state-owned electricity company, where he served as group chief financial officer. He will continue in the role on an acting basis until his successor takes office, Eskom announced in a statement carried by SAnews.

Eskom said Cassim had helped strengthen its financial position and return it to profitability. The company’s board and management thanked him for his service, while the appointment of his successor is to be announced later, according to SAnews.

The transition comes as Eskom faces a plan to transfer its electricity grid, which could cost up to 130 billion rand, according to an estimate published on 31 October.
