The Lagos State Government will jointly require drivers and conductors of commercial Danfo buses to wear identification badges. Checks will also verify registration, permits and safety documents, according to Nuhman Edu, director of public transport, quoted by Vanguard.

Lagos State plans to require identification badges for drivers and conductors of commercial Danfo buses, alongside compliance with other transport regulations. Nuhman Edu, director of public transport and commuter services, announced a joint enforcement campaign by the Ministry of Transportation, the Vehicle Inspection Service and the state’s traffic management authority, the Nigerian newspaper Vanguard reports.

Checks will cover vehicle registration, markings, stage carriage permits, and badges for drivers and conductors. Breaches may result in enforcement or compliance measures in line with the rules in force, Edu said.

According to the director, identifying vehicles and their crews should make it possible to trace operators, help investigations into vehicles suspected of being used for criminal activities, and deal with passenger complaints more quickly. The ministry also plans to consult unions and industry associations and run information campaigns for operators.
