Twenty-two people died and several others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a lorry near Mtito Andei, in Makueni County. The death toll rose from 20 to 22 after two injured people died, according to Tuko, citing local authorities and Citizen Digital.
At least 22 people died on Sunday morning in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a lorry in the Kanga area, near Mtito Andei, in Makueni County, Kenya. The accident occurred at about 7am on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, according to Tuko.
Makueni County Commissioner Abdullahi Khalif initially reported 20 deaths. Two injured passengers later succumbed to their injuries. Several other people were hospitalised at Mtito Andei Sub-County Hospital, where the victims’ bodies were transferred.
The bus passengers were returning from a funeral ceremony. The cause of the collision had not yet been established when it was reported, according to Tuko.
The new death toll comes after 17 people died in an accident in Salama, in the same county, at the beginning of the month. The Nairobi-Mombasa highway was then the scene of a collision involving a lorry whose brakes allegedly failed, according to the previous accident near Mtito Andei published on 25 October.
