Ebola: Kenya records two deaths among nine confirmed cases

Kenya’s Ministry of Health has announced a second Ebola-related death, among nine confirmed cases in the country. Seven patients remain hospitalised in two isolation units and, according to health authorities, all cases belong to the same group of contacts, with no community transmission detected.

Kenya has recorded two deaths among nine confirmed cases of Bundibugyo Ebola. The Kenyan Ministry of Health announced on Friday 23 October the death of a 65-year-old woman, the country’s third confirmed case and a close relative of the first patient to die, reports Capital FM.

The patient developed symptoms on 13 October while in quarantine, before being admitted the same day to a specialised infectious diseases unit. She was receiving supportive care and her family was informed. The authorities are arranging a burial in accordance with public health protocols, according to the Ministry of Health.

Seven patients remain under treatment in two isolation centres. The ministry says the nine confirmed cases belong to the same group of known contacts and that no community transmission has currently been established. The toll follows confirmation of a ninth case on 22 October, then the publication of a report recording 14 negative tests in 24 hours, according to the Kenyan authorities.
