Nigerian presenter and producer Amanda David, also known as Ermandha, calls for African creatives to gain global recognition without abandoning their culture. She discusses her journey from sports reporting to television presenting and her work producing content for Blackdrum 360 in an interview with Tribune Online.
Amanda David, a television presenter and entertainment executive in Nigeria, says she created Rara Avis Entertainment after observing that many independent and emerging creators were excluded from shows and artistic showcases. According to her, organisers feared that beginner artists might disappoint on stage, while these creators received little explanation for their absence from programmes, reports Tribune Online.
Amanda David also believes that taking part in these events did not guarantee that artists would be paid and that a lack of structure, communication and artistic development limited their opportunities. She says she wants to create better conditions for local talent through her work in the creative industry, according to Tribune Online.
Her career includes roles as a sports journalist, television presenter, event host and head of business and partnerships at Blackdrum 360. She had previously taken part in the co-production of “Creative Hub”, a documentary series about the artistic creation process, according to Tribune Online.
