Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang says educated Nigerians contribute to corruption, institutional manipulation and abuses of power. He made the criticism during a conference at Veritas University’s 15th graduation ceremony in Abuja, Tribune Online reports.
The governor of Nigeria’s Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, on Friday accused educated Nigerians of contributing to several governance failures, notably through large-scale corruption, abuse of public office and manipulation of institutions. He was speaking at the graduation lecture of Veritas University’s 15th convocation ceremony in Abuja, according to Tribune Online.
Mutfwang cited financial fraud, manipulation of public procurement, falsification of accounts and money laundering among practices that can use professional skills for personal gain. He also cited internet fraudsters, commonly known as “Yahoo boys”, as an example of intelligence being used for exploitation, Tribune Online reports.
The governor called on graduating students to regard their university education as a responsibility to society rather than simply a qualification for personal advancement. He argued that knowledge should be guided by conscience and integrity, according to Tribune Online.
