Nigerian minister Nyesom Wike accuses former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of overseeing the sale of public assets during his eight years in power. At a political meeting in Rivers State, Wike also criticised his 2027 presidential bid, reports Tribune Online.
Nyesom Wike, Nigeria's Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), defended President Bola Tinubu's economic reforms on Friday, including the removal of the fuel subsidy. At a public meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, he said the measure had increased revenue allocations to states and local governments, according to Tribune Online.
Wike acknowledged current economic difficulties while arguing that increased financial autonomy for the different levels of government had helped clear salary and pension arrears. He also said Nigerian universities had not experienced prolonged strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the university lecturers' union, for three years.
Speaking about the presidential election, Wike accused Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria, of overseeing the privatisation of public companies during his eight years in power. He urged voters to consider what had become of the assets sold and accused Atiku of wanting to recoup the spending on his presidential campaigns if he came to power, according to Tribune Online.
