Tamanrasset’s research and intervention brigade arrested two suspected members of a cross-border network and seized 69 kg of cocaine hidden in a refrigerated lorry. Police also recovered 410 million centimes and a commercial vehicle before presenting the suspects to the specialised prosecutor’s office in Ouargla, according to the General Directorate of National Security.
The Tamanrasset wilaya security research and intervention brigade seized 69 kg of cocaine and arrested two suspected members of a cross-border drug-trafficking network, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said on Friday, according to the Algerian Press Service (APS). The drugs were concealed in various compartments of an intercepted refrigerated lorry.
The consignment was due to be transported from a wilaya in southern Algeria to the north of the country, according to the DGSN. Police also seized 410 million centimes in national currency and a commercial vehicle linked to the network’s activities.
The two suspects were brought before the public prosecutor attached to the specialised criminal division in Ouargla. The seizure follows that of 58 kg of cocaine in Tamanrasset on 21 September, when the Algerian army arrested two suspected traffickers.
