Ten people have been remanded in custody in Algeria as part of an investigation into trafficking 2.4 million psychotropic tablets. The Sidi M’hamed prosecutor’s office says 15 alleged members of a criminal group were arrested following a national police investigation.
Ten suspects have been remanded in custody in a case involving the seizure of 2.4 million pregabalin tablets, a psychotropic drug, in Algeria. The public prosecutor at the National Criminal Court for Combating Terrorism and Transnational Organised Crime at the Sidi M’hamed court announced the measure on Thursday, following an investigation by the national police.
A total of 15 people were arrested, ten of them caught in the act, while the identities of five other suspects who remain at large have been established, according to the prosecutor’s office. The seized tablets contained 300 milligrams each. The ten people remanded in custody are under investigation for the illegal import, transport, transit, storage and possession of psychotropic substances for trafficking purposes as part of a transnational criminal organisation.
This latest case follows several drug-related cases handled in Algeria in October, including the seizure of drugs announced on 10 October and the death sentences handed down on 19 October.
