Italian tourists reportedly lost about 50,000 Namibian dollars after booking an 18-day tour in Namibia and Zimbabwe, with the agency failing to provide assistance. The Namibia Tourism Board is investigating, while police also report 89,800 Namibian dollars in thefts from visitors’ vehicles, The Namibian reports.

Italian tourists say they lost about 50,000 Namibian dollars after booking an 18-day tour of Namibia and Zimbabwe, scheduled from 23 October to 9 November. The itinerary was prepared by Timnoeshe Adventure Tours and Safaris, an agency that was reportedly registered with the Namibia Tourism Board, but the travellers were left without assistance, The Namibian reports.

Guide Timan Henguva, based in Otjiwarongo, has since been reported missing by his wife. The Namibia Tourism Board is investigating the case and is seeking booking and payment evidence from the tourists, its spokesperson Flora Quest said.

Police have also reported the theft of items worth a total of 89,800 Namibian dollars from two vehicles parked in Walvis Bay and Klein Windhoek. The Tourism Board says it has received nine reports concerning operators since April, including cases of payments taken without services being provided or false proof of payment. Operators found guilty may be ordered to refund their clients and lose their registration, according to Flora Quest.
