The Namibian government has allocated 179 million Namibian dollars to contain and manage the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak that emerged on 23 September 2026. Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah said the funds came from a 2% reduction in government agencies’ spending ceilings, Observer24 reports.

The Namibian government has allocated 179 million Namibian dollars to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform to contain and manage the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak. Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah announced the allocation in the mid-term revised budget, Observer24 reports.

The funds were made available through a 2% reduction in the spending ceilings of all ministries, offices and government agencies, the minister said. The Ministry of Agriculture began control measures after the outbreak emerged on 23 September 2026. It will continue to monitor the situation and take the necessary measures, Shafudah said.

This new allocation is in addition to the 200 million Namibian dollars earmarked for foot-and-mouth disease, announced on 5 October. Namibia had also reported 79 new cases on 11 farms, according to an update published on 3 October.
