An Algerian operation led to the seizure of 2.4 million pregabalin capsules and the arrest of ten suspected members of a criminal organisation, while five other suspects are being sought. The arrests took place in Boumerdès and Tipaza after an investigation into the shipment of the consignment northwards, according to the central anti-narcotics service.
Algerian authorities have seized 2.4 million pregabalin capsules and arrested ten suspected members of a criminal organisation, the Central Service for Combating Illicit Drug and Psychotropic Substance Trafficking (SCLTISSP) announced on Thursday. Five other suspects are on the run.
The investigation foiled the shipment of the consignment from southern wilayas to the north of the country. The arrests were made in succession in the wilayas of Boumerdès and Tipaza, according to a statement from the central service. Police also seized three vehicles and a motorbike used by the group, according to the National Security Directorate.
The ten people arrested appeared before the public prosecutor at the specialised criminal court in Sidi M’Hamed, Algiers. The case follows one involving 2.4 million psychotropic tablets in Algiers, announced on 29 October.
