Khaled Ben Yahia to take charge of MC Alger’s next match

Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia has agreed to take charge of MC Alger’s next match against USM Khenchela, following discussions with officials who want him to stay. He has not yet made a final decision about leaving, the Algerian sports newspaper Compétition reports.

Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia has agreed to take charge of MC Alger’s next match against USM Khenchela, although he had been considering leaving the Algiers club. A meeting with the club’s management on Wednesday changed the situation, the Algerian sports newspaper Compétition reports.

Ben Yahia asked for time to consider the matter before making a final decision about his future. Another meeting with MC Alger officials is planned after the match to discuss the terms for him to continue in his role, according to Compétition.

The coach had announced his intention to leave after MC Alger qualified for the group stage of the CAF Champions League against Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers with a 3-0 victory in the second leg. The club also won its league match against US Biskra on Tuesday, 1-0, with Siriman Konaté scoring in the 56th minute. The win took its total to ten points from four matches, with several games in hand. According to Compétition, support from several players after the victory helped change Ben Yahia’s position.

The decision comes as the Tunisian coach is reportedly seeking five months of unpaid wages, according to a report published on 20 October. The unpaid wages claimed by the coach had therefore been an issue before the discussions that led to his agreement to take charge of the next match.
