Air Algérie inaugurated a direct service between Algiers and Shanghai on Monday 26 October, operating three flights a week, according to Algeria’s Ministry of Transport. The ceremony was presided over by Sid Ahmed Dekdouk, the group’s acting director of sales and network, with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in attendance.
Shanghai is the third Chinese city served by Air Algérie, after Beijing and Guangzhou, according to the national airline. Bookings are open, with return fares starting at 124,398 dinars, or about €892. The new route is also intended to increase air freight capacity between Algeria and China.
The launch comes two days after Air Algérie announced five new international routes, including Shanghai, Conakry, Brazzaville, Lagos and Tripoli. The airline described the opening of these five routes to Africa and Asia as a step towards expanding its international network.
