The Mohammed VI Centre for the Support of Solidarity-based Microfinance honoured 26 micro-entrepreneurs in Tangier, including 18 women, from among 395 candidates. The 12th edition of the national award recognises project holders funded by microcredit; around 320 people have been honoured since 2012, the centre’s president, Naziha Belkeziz, said.
Twenty-six micro-entrepreneurs were honoured on Friday 23 October in Tangier at the 12th edition of Morocco’s national microfinance award. Eighteen of the winners are women. The six jury members selected them from 395 candidates, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc.
Naziha Belkeziz, chair of the board of the Mohammed VI Centre for the Support of Solidarity-based Microfinance, praised entrepreneurs who had used microcredit to launch and develop their businesses. She said women accounted for 70% of this year’s winners and considered the result a reflection of their growing contribution to creating local wealth.
Since its launch in 2012, the award has recognised around 320 project holders across Morocco. Amina Sakioudi, director-general of the Mohammed VI Centre, said the experience of the women honoured could inspire other female entrepreneurs. The Centre also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting micro-entrepreneurs’ training, management skills and digital transition.
