Stellantis Algeria recalls six Opel models over Takata airbags

Stellantis Algeria is asking owners of six Opel models produced between 2008 and 2017 to stop driving them immediately and have their Takata airbags replaced free of charge. The group says the inflators can rupture and cause serious or fatal injuries when deployed, according to TSA.

Stellantis is asking owners in Algeria of six Opel models produced between 2008 and 2017 to stop driving them immediately because of a risk involving Takata airbags, according to the carmaker quoted by TSA. The vehicles concerned are the Astra H, Astra J, Cascada, Meriva B, Mokka and Zafira C.

Customers are invited to call 024 88 05 61 to make an appointment and have the airbags replaced free of charge by an authorised repairer. Stellantis also allows customers to check a vehicle’s eligibility on the official Opel Algeria website using its vehicle identification number (VIN), according to TSA.

The group explains that the airbags’ chemical components can deteriorate over time, particularly under hot and humid conditions. In the event of an accident, the inflator can then rupture with excessive force and cause serious or fatal injuries.
