SEAAL cuts off water to unpaid subscribers in Algiers

Algiers Water and Sanitation Company, SEAAL, is suspending supplies to households with accumulated unpaid bills. The so-called ‘deep’ disconnections affect several municipalities and require staff intervention to restore service, according to Algérie 360.

SEAAL, the public company responsible for water distribution in Algiers, has cut off supplies to several subscribers who had accumulated unpaid bills. The recovery operation, launched at the beginning of the previous week, concerns several municipalities in the capital, reports Algérie 360.

Teams disconnected the supplies directly on the distribution pipes, rather than simply closing the meters. According to SEAAL, the households targeted had previously received reminders and formal notices to pay. The company says other subscribers whose arrears have not been settled could be affected in the coming days.

Reconnecting the supply incurs additional charges, which are added to the debt. Customers can pay their bills at commercial agencies or online via Fatourati and the WAKALATI mobile app.

The disconnections come after several disruptions to water distribution in Algiers caused by breakdowns, including those reported in September.
