The Egyptian government proposes raising the minimum wage from 8,000 to 15,000 Egyptian pounds by the 2029-2030 financial year, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced at the closing of Egypt Forum 2026 on Saturday 24 October, according to Daily News Egypt. The recommendations also call for an increase of at least 50% in employees’ average salaries by the end of the same financial year.
The forum recommends providing one million homes over four years and expanding cultivated land to 12.5 million feddans by 2030. It also proposes increasing the public purchase price of wheat to 2,650 pounds per ardeb, from 2,500 currently, and that of sugar beet grown in newly reclaimed areas to 2,300 pounds, from 2,000.
For the 2026-2027 winter season, an initiative is to support land preparation for wheat cultivation on one million feddans belonging to farms smaller than two feddans. Farmers would receive mechanisation services at half price, while another recommendation calls for cancelling fines related to water wastage in rice cultivation, according to Daily News Egypt.
