Senegal plans to vaccinate eight million sheep and goats and 3.1 million cattle during the 2026-2027 national livestock vaccination campaign, launched on Saturday in Ndiaganiao, in Mbour department, Senegal. The target was announced by Ousmane Diagne, minister responsible for livestock, according to the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).

The campaign also aims to vaccinate 300,000 equids and two million rural poultry. It is intended in particular to protect animals against peste des petits ruminants, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, lumpy skin disease, equine plague and Newcastle disease, Ousmane Diagne said.

The previous campaign vaccinated nearly seven million small ruminants and more than 2.7 million cattle, according to the minister. He called on veterinary services, local authorities, private veterinarians, livestock farmers’ organisations and technical and financial partners to mobilise to meet the new targets.
