China car sales expected to rebound by 2% in 2027

By , based on TimesLIVE

Passenger car sales in China are expected to fall to 18.5 million units in 2026, from 23.7 million in 2025, before rising by 2% in 2027. The recovery would be based on lower costs and better models, despite increasingly polarised competition, according to Cui Dongshu, cited by Reuters.

China’s passenger car sales are expected to rebound by 2% in 2027, after a sharper-than-expected decline in 2026. They are forecast to fall to 18.5 million vehicles this year, from 23.7 million in 2025, Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, said on Monday, according to Reuters.

The recovery would be supported by short-term headwinds easing, lower cost pressures and an improved range of products. Competition is nevertheless expected to become increasingly polarised, Cui Dongshu added.
