The Senegalese Network of Rural Women brought together women producers in Thionck Essyl, in the Ziguinchor region, to discuss land, financing, rights and climate justice. The discussions are expected to lead to a declaration, according to APS, which cited sub-prefect Papa Sandéné Sène.
The Senegalese Network of Rural Women organised panels on Sunday in Thionck Essyl, in the Ziguinchor region, on rights, land, financing and climate. The discussions brought together women producers from Casamance to address their access to land, credit and decision-making bodies, according to the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).
The proceedings are expected to lead to a declaration known as the Thionck Essyl Declaration. The sub-prefect of Tendouck, Papa Sandéné Sène, hopes the document will serve as a roadmap for policies supporting women farmers and foster partnerships between their organisations, the state and donors, APS reports.
The discussions were held under the theme “From Bayakh to Thionk Essyl: empowering women producers in Casamance to build a resilient agri-food future in the Beijing +30 era”. Papa Sandéné Sène also advocated agroecology, water management, resilient seeds and consuming local produce.
