Algerian Health Minister Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudane presented figures showing 14,712 new breast cancer cases and 4,334 prostate cancer cases each year. The data come from the national cancer registry network and were presented at its 2026 annual meeting, according to Algérie360.
Algeria’s national cancer registry network records 14,712 new cases of breast cancer each year among women, according to figures presented in Algiers on Thursday by Health Minister Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudane. The disease accounts for more than 42% of cancers recorded among women.
Among men, prostate cancer ranks first, with 4,334 new cases annually, ahead of colorectal cancer, which accounts for 4,066, according to figures released by the minister. Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudane called for stronger prevention, action against risk factors, and better access to diagnosis and treatment.
The figures were presented at the network’s 2026 annual meeting. According to the minister, the registries have produced detailed indicators by sex, age, cancer location and wilaya since 2015. They have contributed to the development of the national cancer prevention and control strategy for 2025-2035 and help guide investment, including the expansion of cancer centres and the development of radiotherapy services equipped with linear accelerators.
