Tunisia says its health system is ready to monitor and manage Ebola-related emergencies, Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani said. During an extraordinary virtual Africa CDC meeting, he also called for stronger early warning, border controls and African coordination, according to a ministerial statement reported by La Presse de Tunisie.
Tunisia is ready to monitor and manage health emergencies linked to Ebola, Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani said on Wednesday 28 October. He also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to cooperating with other African states to limit the spread of the epidemic, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.
Mustapha Ferjani was speaking during an extraordinary virtual ministerial meeting organised by Africa CDC, the African agency for disease control and prevention, on developments in the epidemic caused by the Bundibugyo strain. Discussions focused on early warning, strengthening border controls and coordination between countries to speed up the health response.
The minister said Tunisia’s system was mobilised for epidemiological surveillance and emergency preparedness. The announcement extends Tunisia’s health cooperation with the WHO, launched during a meeting in Berlin on 12 October.
