Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree denied that the movement had launched a drone towards Saudi Arabia, after a coalition announced it had intercepted one in the Mecca region. The Houthis say they did not carry out an operation against Saudi territory, according to Reuters, while saying they target the kingdom’s oil facilities and military bases.
The Houthis’ military spokesman, Yahya Saree, denied a coalition’s accusation that the Yemeni movement had launched a drone towards Saudi territory. In a post on social media platform X, he called the account false and said Houthi operations targeted Saudi oil facilities and military bases, according to the Daily Maverick.
The Houthis, an Iran-backed Yemeni movement, have carried out several cross-border attacks on military facilities, airports and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. The group has previously rejected accusations of attacks on Mecca and Medina, the two holiest cities in Islam, the Daily Maverick reports.
The denial comes after several episodes linked to tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, including explosions in Riyadh reported on 27 October and Houthi claims that they had struck the Ras Tanura refinery on the same day.
