Trade between Algeria and Russia rose by 20% in the first nine months of 2026, Russian ambassador to Algiers Alexei Solomatin said, as quoted on Saturday 31 October by Russia’s Pivot to Asia. He expects the volume to reach $3.84 billion for the year as a whole.
Moscow and Algiers believe trade could reach $10 billion by 2030, according to Solomatin. In 2025, bilateral trade totalled $3.2 billion, up 56% year on year. On Wednesday, Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, also said the positive trend was continuing in 2026. She described Algeria as Russia’s second-largest trade and economic partner in Africa, after Egypt.
The trade balance is heavily in Moscow’s favour. In 2024, Algerian imports from Russia reached $2.02 billion, including $729.71 million in cereals. Algerian exports to Russia amounted to $7.67 million, mainly fruit and plastic products.
The Russian ambassador also discussed the potential for economic cooperation between the two countries. Maria Zakharova, for her part, described Russian-Algerian military-technical cooperation as ‘exemplary’. The announcement comes after the planned resumption of direct flights between Algiers and Moscow by Air Algérie, announced on 31 October for early 2027.
