A Libyan-Italian economic forum has opened in Misrata with around 60 Italian companies and institutions taking part. Discussions include trade, energy, technology, shipbuilding and the potential of Misrata’s port and free zone, Libya Herald reports.

The 2026 Libyan-Italian Business and Investment Forum opened in Misrata with about 60 Italian companies and institutions taking part, Libya Herald reports. Participants represent sectors including trade, industry, energy, technology and shipbuilding.

Organised by the Misrata Free Zone with the Libyan-Italian Chamber of Commerce, the forum includes visits to Libyan institutions and companies as well as the signing of cooperation agreements. Alaa El-Din Baba, the Misrata Free Zone’s director of marketing and international cooperation, told Libya Herald that Italian companies are particularly interested in the port of Misrata and the free zone, seen as gateways to African and European markets.

The organisers aim to turn this interest into partnerships and investment, commercial and industrial projects. The meeting follows a promotional tour organised by the Misrata Free Zone in Rome in July.

An earlier investors’ forum in Misrata on 10 October brought together more than 70 companies, according to the title published at the time.
