Egypt plans to install solar power plants with a combined capacity of 1,000 megawatts to supply around 7,000 factories under the ‘Shams El-Senaa’ initiative. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed the implementation mechanisms with the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, according to Daily News Egypt.

The programme is expected to reduce electricity bills and natural gas consumption at industrial sites, while improving production efficiency and the competitiveness of Egyptian products, according to Mahmoud Esmat. It is also expected to support local manufacturing of renewable energy components and increase export opportunities.

The government is simultaneously preparing to install solar systems on the roofs of public buildings across the country. Mostafa Madbouly called for a national framework for the installation, operation and maintenance of the equipment, with regular inspections of panels, transformers, connection systems and control devices, as well as the training of specialised technicians.
