Equatorial Guinea has completed in Malabo its first national workshop for personnel working at borders under the African Continental Free Trade Area. Supported by the United Nations Development Programme and the AfCFTA secretariat, the training aims to strengthen the application of trade procedures, according to Equatorial Guinean authorities.
Equatorial Guinea completed on Saturday 31 October in Malabo a training course on trade and border procedures under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The seminar brought together customs and trade inspectors, as well as personnel working at borders, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the AfCFTA secretariat.
The Deputy Minister of Trade, Business Promotion and Industries, Avelino Mocache, said the session was the first national workshop specifically dedicated to personnel working at borders. He recalled that Equatorial Guinea had signed and ratified the AfCFTA agreement in 2019 and that its implementation was included in the national strategy for applying the agreement.
The UNDP resident representative in Equatorial Guinea, Betty Wabunoha, stressed that access for Equatorial Guinean products to African markets required more than the signing of trade agreements. She cited the need for appropriate procedures and technical capacity to make trade smooth, predictable and safe, according to Real Equatorial Guinea.
