Deputy Minister Avelino Mocache says the training should improve inspections, public revenue and trade facilitation, Real Equatorial Guinea reports.
Equatorial Guinea launched a two-day seminar in Malabo on Friday 30 October for customs and trade inspectors and border control officers, to strengthen their skills in implementing the instruments of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), according to the Equatorial Guinean government. The training is taking place in the United Nations building in Malabo II under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, Industry and Investment Promotion.
The Deputy Minister of Trade, Business Promotion and Industry, Avelino Mocache, opened the proceedings and called for procedures to be harmonised among agencies working at the borders. He highlighted the role of border posts in collecting public revenue, protecting the national economy and facilitating legitimate trade. Betty Wabunoha, the United Nations Development Programme’s Resident Representative in Equatorial Guinea, said that the AfCFTA could expand markets and create jobs, provided regional commitments were translated into operational practice, according to Real Equatorial Guinea.
